| Hundreds
of anglers from across the UK are expected to take part in
the two day event at Burry Port Harbour.
The competition was last held five years ago
but was left high and dry while a £3.5m renovation scheme
was carried out at the seafront.
Now hopes are high the festival that attracted
fishermen from as far away as the Midlands, Bristol and North
Wales will be more popular than ever.
Harbour master Rory Dickinson said: "When
it was last held we had as many 150 boats taking part and
we are hoping for the sort of number again.
"Indications are we will get something
along those lines.
"We had anglers from all over the country
- boats use to chug up from Cardiff and the Bristol Channel."
It is being organised by Burry Port Yacht
Club and officers at the Llanelli Coastal Park.
A camping area is being set up next to the
harbour for those wanting to stay in Burry Port.
Organisers are encouraging competitors to
bring their families and make the most of other attractions
and leisure facilities in the area.
They say the seas around Burry Port and the
Gower are among the best fishing grounds around the Welsh
coast.
Prizes will be offered for the best specimen
fish, heaviest fish and the heaviest bass landed during the
event.
Organiser Mike Soanes said: "For 14 years
this was one of the biggest and best events of its kind in
Britain.
"But we had to call a halt to the competition
in 1998 because of extensive renovation works being undertaken
in the harbour.
"We have thousands of pounds worth of
prizes and are anticipating small boats from all over the
country will take part over the weekend.
"Local fishermen are reporting excellent
catches of many different species at the moment and I am confident
that competitors will enjoy a superb two days of fishing."
