| "A
fishery is a place where one or more lakes, lengths of Rivers
or Canals are owned by someone and that person allows you
to fish on their property for a fee. But, they usually ensure
that their waters have a good stock of quality fish for you
to "have a go at".
Which differs from a natural lake or stream
which is left in an unmanaged state. That means that no-one
is looking after the well being of the fish or the water.
The water quality is important because it
is in the water that the fish survives. Poor or bad water,
that is water that may be polluted (chemicals, algae, effluent
or contaminated with fertilisers and other unpleasant things)
or have insufficient absorbed oxygen that the fish are unable
to breath properly.
If they can't breath properly then they may
die due to lack of oxygen. When this happens you will see
the fish floating on the surface of the water.
In a Commercial Fishery most managers or owners
ensure and care for the well being of their waters and their
fish. Not so may years ago many rivers and canals were polluted
by effluent or industrial waste which meant that the number
of available waters to fish in were either in a poor state
or too bad to fish in.
Commercial Fisheries have provided the means
of quality fishing generally in a safer environment and the
additional benefit of convenience. Unlike yesteryear, when
going fishing meant climbing fences and trudging across muddy
fields and over brooks just to get near to the water, Fisheries
allow you to park in relative safety close to the water and
with the volume of gear carried by a modern angler a short
and easy walk to the bankside. They may also provide convenience
by selling tackle and simple meals and hot drinks.
So, do you want wilderness, wind and tranquility
or easy access and convenience?"
